i followed sonix method and i can say it works so far.Its boots super fast compared to the original., the first time i tried to do it i ran out of HD space. i wasn't paying attention. after i got around 50gb free, i started over from scratch. and now i have a sweet backup of GOW!!!! im at the 2nd save point right now so i can't verify if the whole game is fully functional.

thanks sonix

what version of swap magic are you using?? I had the same problem using 2.0... had to use DVDLoader V7 to boot it and it works fine..

Swap Magic 3.3 or higher should boot it without needing any additional steps.. so if you have 3.3 then there is a problem with your rebuilt iso...

Thanks JLF24

All right, I have this program called CD-DVD Generator Version 1.20. I don't see any use in it whatsoever? It just can't be the right program I'm looking for!?

You have CDDVDGEN.(1.20)
that is the program.
That is an old version though.
Here is a link to cddvdgen 1.5

The newest release is 2.0

Hey wats up an update,I am pretty close to finishing it up.I think cubemediaplayer is the shiznit no lie.Hey Jizmak I saw you said on another post you had problems playing the .pss file bro.You can get this media player here http://www.cubemediaplayer.com .It works like a charm man,and sbofen I also can get the bitrate down to 8 like you are trying to do.You just have to decode it to 8 from 16 I used Blaze Media Pro for that job,and I also used Blaze Media Pro to convert my compressed .AVI file to .M2V ;).My progress seems like it is taking longer, but nah not really I just had to go take care of a couple things which took some time away from me.I will post the results once it is done, and hey Jizmak check out the .pss file bro and let me know what you think.

Thanks for the link. I downloaded it and I didn't see anything that resembles what you were explaining in your tutorial?

With the application, the interface looks like this: Exit - View Patch Note - Apply Patch. Again, it really doesn't seem like the right app, am
I missing something?

Sorry, I'm totally new to this rebuilding phase, I normally just slap a game in and let Decrypter do the rest. Except for a few Xbox games that needed some downsizing.
Thanks

Relink all the missing BONUS*.PSS files to any available PSS file you want.
I just picked the first availible .pss file then went to the next one in order.

But it doesnt matter you can re-link to any .pss

I got the working copy of God of War ripped from DVD9 to DVD5 and it keeps freezing right after I get the second necklace for Hera and the other goddess to open to door on cliffs of madness. It freezes once for a little when I got back through the passage with the cave with the giant minotaur outcropping around it with red eyes. Then I go to the part where you have to rotate the 2 platforms by rotating the handle and they both move. When I get to the top, exiting the cave, it freezes. Anyone else have that problem?

jizmak:
could you please give a little more detail on your instructions,I believe your missing some details at the very begining as far as using apache2, are a little vague.I open the iso and extract it,but there isn't a pak.2.I have previously made a copy of GOW but it freezes up after the cutscene where he's climbing up chronos(level 9).

pak 2 is in layer 1.
You have to do 2 extractions.
First extract layer 0
Then extract layer 1 to the same folder.
They are extracted seperately.

When you are in Apache2 you have to right click at the top of the header of your .iso in the program and select switch layers. Then you can obtain the second layer PART2.PAK it really isn't hard to do.Go back and extract both layers, then continue from there with Jizmak's instructions or Sonix they both work.

As far as the re-built game freezing.
It will it freeze in some parts.
(But not like the other releases.)
Just wait a few moments and everything will clear up.
I finished the game on easy mode using my method.

Remember we edited the dvd9,
so you cant expect every "loading" screen to be perfect.
But be patient the game will continue.

Hey wats up I have some good news and then again I have some bad news.I compressed all the videos for the bonus movies, and then tried to recompile everything with Sonix tool right. The good news is that you don't have to do any relinking when you keep everything. The bad news is that after all the hard work right,I ended up with 4.18Gig for the PAK file.It was still over the God of War tool limit, easy fix though.I can just compress more ingame movies to get it to work, but it will take longer. If you seen the BONUS01.pss movie I put up.That is what the quality would be like on all the .pss movies,so nothing is lost just compressed.I will keep working on it,sbofen if you want to bro.You can decrease the Frequency of the .wav files to 24000 and it should cut the .wav files in half still making it where the .wav files are 16 bitrate bro.It didn't work with just compressing the bonus movies sbofen, sorry bro.I will keep working on it off and on.It seems like Sonix tool isn't strong enough to compress all the files in the Extracted folder if it is over 4,096MB.

L-Burna, yeah man, that's EXACTLY the problem I ran into, figured the orignal pak1 file was 3.96 gigs, that's what I'd use (cause the GOW tool locks up), unfortunately I don't have the time.

24000 is ok for the .wav files? I was going to try 22050, cause that seems like a standard. I'll give it a shot, but it might take a while.

Hi, I been reading and rereading this thread to find the right answers. I just finished my first back up. Everything went fine til I tried loading it on my ps2.The first screen where it says sony computer license info just freezes there, However, I did read the post that you need swap magic 3.3 or something to load it
Is this true?

My version of swap magic is (cd 3.0 but at bottom it says 3.2 usa build)
and my (dvd version is 2.0)

If anyone could confirm this would be great.

Also I would like to add the only other errors I noticed I did wrong was: not having the ims and iml file created in the gow folder.

if anyone has any helpful information about my situation would be great.

(And a special thanks to Sonix and Jizmak for helping us noobs out.)

noob here, so i've downloaded all the utilities and followed the directions but now i'm supposed to manually relink the .psw files to the equivalent .pss files. Sounds easy enough, however the problem is that the psw files are on the left side (missing files) and the pss files are SUPPOSED to be on the right side. Somehow, they are ALSO on the left side... no idea how, but..... NOW WHAT?

thanks

For the files you deleted.
You re-link the files to any available .pss file.
(obviously dont link to any of the files you deleted.)
As long as its available it wont matter.
However if you link to a .pss that was deleted.
Wherever that cut-scene is the game will lock up.

For those of you with swap magic disks 3.0 and lower.
You have to use dvd loader to boot.

I believe that's why your game is freezing at start-up screen.

Jizmak yes!

you're right. After searching afterdawn about swap magic I checked out ps2nfo.com. Anyways I downloaded dvdloader v7all, it's about 539 megs burned it with dvdecrypter onto a fujifilm. Next I loaded dvd magic 2.0 then I swapped for dvdloader, then I had to swap again for my god of war back up what sucks is that the dvd don't stop spinning :( anyways it said enter a dvdr ea method at this point I just pressed x and it loaded.

But I did find a problem. I have two memory card saves of GoW mine is 2 1/2 hours of play my brothers is 5 hours of play roughly. When I try to load my brothers saved spot it just freezes, my saved spot works and I was playing it for a few minutes. If anyone has any tips I would appreciate it.

edit: I burned it at 2x fujifilm dvd-r the only thing I might have done wrong was creat the gow.ims & iml file on the wrong directory.

edit2: btw I would like to add I saw on swapmagicfix.com god of war cdloader fix by restructuring the order on cd/dvdgen it will work with
SM 2.0

Wait about seven seconds or so after laoding dvd loader.
the disc will stop spinning you just have to wait on it.
also
I burned my dvd loader to cd-r.
I know it's dvd loader but it works best on cd-r

Your gonna have problems with the dvd loader burned to a dvd-r with that small of a TOC.
(which is probably causing your current problem)

This method is much more reliable,

1)-boot sm cd disk
2)-load dvdloader (on cd-r media).
3)-press eject
4)-insert sm dvd disk (TOC DVD refresh)
wait 7-8 seconds
5)-swap for backup(EA METHOD SCREEN)
6)-press x.
