Solidcad,
I tried progressive with the original disc, and it did not work either on my Sony 52" HDTV. I am using the wide-mode from the menu though, but have not tried that on the backup although I bet it will work fine.
Did you use progressive before on this game? If so, what is it like?
but FYI the only thing stripped is the bonus movies, no menu or video settings, so I cannot see why that would affect whether or not the progressive mode works.

hey guys - long time reader of this site first time poster...anyway just wanted to add that I used Sonix method and it worked fine. I also just got to the 5 minute load part in the cave, a little annoying but no big deal. As for Progressive scan. I have an HD TV and the Progressive works. I wish I could tell you and soildcad that I did something strange but all I did was follow Sonix method...

Manalty, yeah it doesnt work for me even with the original disc, but I didnt play with any of my TV settings. What is it like in Progressive mode? Is it worth worrying about?

my original disk works perfectly on Progressive but my back up does not. oh and it looks amazing on Progressive the colors and edges of the characters are clean and sharp.i wonder my backup progreesive doesnt work?

When I try to make a ISO using DVD Decrypter I only get a MDS file and no ISo. Apache can't read MDs files so can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong.
When creating a ISO I go to DVD decryptor
Mode
ISO
read
Is this the correct way.
PS. I'm using somics guide

Dabouncer, If you are using DVD Decryptor, and it is set to MODE>ISO>READ you will get an iso. Check the path by clicking the little folder icon and you'll see where it is going. dont know what else to tell you, thats what the program does, it makes iso's.

i set it to mode>iso>read but i only get a MDS file. It says it's creating a ISO file but only creates MDS files.

Well Im a noob and I have thought about ripping games just dont have alot of time due to DVD projects. I own an original copy of GOW and noticed earlier in the thread that someone had a freezing issue at the begining of pandora stage. I also had this issue on the purchased version. PS2 sounds like a chainsaw every stage after as well. No other games are having problems and movies still play fine. Also had game lock up 2 different times when tryinf to save. 1 time before after beating the desert singing creatures and once furhter into Pandora area.. This game really pushes the PS2 to the limit.

I managed to extract all the files form the first layer from the original GOW disc. when i try to chabge layers it says "I can only switch layers with a dvd 9 iso" . DVD Decrypter only makes MDS files for me so I guess I'm shit out of luck

prpl_haZe - ya thats crazy that it doesnt work...I have a 57" toshiba and the difference is amazing. I don't know if its the size or a case of being spoiled but man there is no way I could play it without Progressive...it looks incredible. Night and day buddy...night and day.

awe crap i forgot to add that you have to have component hook ups. I have an XBOX too and bought the mad catz hi def cables. They have input for both PS2 and XBOX, so you don't have to take the money hit twice. They work fine. I even did the compare with monster cables and no difference. If your going hi def I highly recommend saving the 100+ bucks and get the mad catz.

i followed all the steps for backup though the game loads and plays it will not go into Progressive mode? any one else had this prob?

I have component cables, but they're not fit to plug into the PS2. They make special cables for that? Sounds interesting... That would explain why progressive mode doesn't work though. But not why it doesnt work on your backup.
And dabouncer, chill out man, there are other programs that make ISO images. I'm sure someone can suggest one. If you cant get DVD Decrypter to work, find one. I've never heard of the problem you are having though. Try un-installing it, re-downloading the version from the afterdawn download section, and re-installing.
Anyone made any progress on downsampling the bonus content or stripping game content to make a 'Bonus Only DVD"?

eh?? I'm not sure what you mean?
Bonus Only DVD? No, haven't done that. But yes, I've put the entire DVD on a single layer DVD, including the bonus scenes. Just had to downsample the video. Problem is, the video is compressed so much, it doesn't look that good, but its there. Trying currently to downsample the audio, from what I'm told that's possible too. So if I can get that lowered, the video should show improvement.

Hi All, I just want to say I had the same problem with godofwar\system\cfn error...What I was doing wrong was I forgot that i tried it Jizmak's way first to make the iso/iml files. His copy works great so far. So, when I tried Sonix's version I just skipped decryptor and made iso with apache 2. After following Sonix's tutorial step by step..I got the cfn error aborting.. Then I realized I was putting Jizmak's iso/iml into it. I found sonix's iso/iml and put it in one folder above...Voila! Hope this helps and I hope you understand this..I've been up all night...going to get some sleep... soon...Only thing I wonder is with Jizmak's setup is if I have part two..Is it going to crash down the road? So far is great up to desert road...

sbofen: I meant that it'd be nice if you could explain how to downsample the video. I'm sure it's been done before on other games, and if you could explain how, or say to use process as described here (and link or something) but tell us what the files or changes are specifically for God of War that would be really nice.
Is it only the bonus content you had to downsample, or all of the mini-movie cut scenes as well?
And am I the only one interested in a Bonus only dvd (at full quality?)

The five minute loading problem that some people are talking about...
Where is this exactly taking place? I know its on the Cliffs of Maddness but where? I have the second necklace and on my way to place it. I get a short loading pause when I enter a cave and then when I go to exit the cave it starts loading again. Is this the one that everyone is talking about? I want to know because I haven't left it alone to see if it loads, I 've just kept reseting and ejecting and loading saved game and whatnot... So should I just let it go and keep loading? What about the thing I've read about turning the PS2 on its side to stop the problem, is there any truth to it??

Hey Jizmak wats up bro,I am currently back to working on God of War and I do think it is possible to keep everything without ripping anything man.I am downsizing the files right now as we speak,and I know you probably won't want to do this method and I understand.I am just saying you can make the game complete without ripping anything out.I am using three tools to do this which are:
CubeMediaPlayer2
PSSPlex
Blaze Media Pro
I also used Sonix tool to extract all the files,but that is mandatory no matter which way you go.I have pretty much saved alot of space by doing this,and the videos and sound are perfect.Nothing looks messed up by doing this,should be the full game.Take it easy man and I am just trying to help out,some people would like to keep the whole game.So I am currently working on that right now,hopefully soon it will be done and I can let you all know what all I did.

I have 2 copies one with the bonus movies (that freezes at level 4).
and then the one using sonix tool.
If you able to make it work thats great.
