If your video doesn't play (1080p m2ts) it most likely needs to be recoded, use megui for this. When you remux back to m2ts then yes make sure that option us unchecked.

I use a program called AVI_Mux_Gui v1.17.7. I don't think you can demux the h264 file but it can remux to mkv... which tsMuxeR does accept.

IMPORTANT - don't forget, mt2s is not compatible with DTS or srt subs, you will need to make a Blu-Ray structured file which tsMuxeR can do. Once you mux everything to "Blu-Ray" burn with Nero Burning Rom, make a UDF data DVD partition type 2.5. Now you have a AVCHD disc with all of the above mentioned audio streams and srt subs (all switchable).

EDIT: I just realized you can use mkvmerge for this as well, just load your .avi file, specify the fps or mkvmerge will assume it is 25fps (specify in the "format specific options" tab), use 24000/1001 for 23.976fps. I prefer this method to the AVIMux method.

This is likely a problem with your Media streaming software - what are you using?

Ryu77 and odin24 maybe its stupid questions but i want 2 understand

i want to see the movie in my extental hdd with srt subtitle

so i do this steps

use new tsmuxer add the mkv movie and srt file in input files
change level to 4.1

create blu-ray disc

Create a folder on my external hdd named AVCHD Then put the BDMV and CERTIFICATE

use the tool like Ryu77 sayed http://www.mediafire.com/?ywt2wysnzb1 to name all files to the 8.3 format and run it in AVCHD

the movie is large than 4gb so i split it to put in ex. hdd

in ps3 i saw AVCHD -> BDMV -> STREAM this vidoes working but its M2TS
i checked it thers is no subtitle

Anything above I am missing out or doing wrong?
shoud i demux the sub first? or doing another steps?

sorry for bothering and long,,

The way to go would be making a AVCHD [b]DVD[b], I have not tried the method you just posted but all you realy did was just played the m2ts file within the Blu-Ray structure, tsMuxeR can make m2ts files alone and splitting is not neccesary as the PS3 can handle those files to an unlimited size.

Like I said, pony up the dough (~$1.00/DVD9) for a spindle of 25, this is best option.

This might/might not work but I'm not 100% sure as I have never had the need to try. Make a AVCHD disc but instead for burning it make a image, keep it on your HDD and try to load it with a virtual drive.

Load your mkv and srt subtitle in to tsMuxer, highlight the raw h264 video stream and verify it is level 4.1 or lower, if not lower it to 4.1. Mux to Blu-Ray.

IMPORTANT: Blu-Ray structure calls for HD resolutions of 1920x1080 (not1920x818, etc) or 1280x720... (not 1280x525, etc), if they are anything other than the two mentioned you will get a bright green bar on the screen.

Once you have your BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders that tsMuxeR made burn them to a DVD9 using Nero Burning ROM, make a UDF-DATA DVD, partition type 2.5... you need to change that setting manually.

Keep in mind that a DVD9 holds 8152mb of data, you will need approx 6% of that for the AVCHD header so make absolutely sure your total file size is no larger than 7690mb, I'd round down to 7600mb or even 7500mb just to be safe. If you find that your total file size is too large you will need to recode your video stream and make it a specific size...

8152mb - AVCHD header (500mb)-Audio stream = video stream size.

Hi Ryu77/odin24, Would like to seek your expert advise. I can create avchd from single mkv file easily by tsMuxeR and it played perfectly on PS3. However, if I append 2 or more mkv file to blu-ray structure. The avchd played nothing on PS3 (only black screen).
If I append several mkv files to 1 m2ts file and make it to blu-ray structure, the avchd can then be played perfectly on PS3. Do you know why I couldn't play the avchd if I append mkv files to 1 blu-ray structure file? Thanks

You need to resize your video, to do this you need to recode it. I'd use AVIsynth with MeGui.

Take a look at this thread, it should help you out with resizing. Pay attention to what Ryu77 says.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/654502

Use AVIsynth with the following script... Just open a new notepad text file and enter the following script below, change the directory and file location of where your movie is on your computer. Instead of just saving the notepad file choose "Save As" then use the drop down box and choose "All Files" instead of .txt, then enter the "YourVideo.avs" (AVIsynth file type).

Load the .avs file in MeGui, make sure you encode to RawAVC, change your settings to your desired bitrate, use the biterate calculator in the tools section, make sure the codec is x264, not avc1 or VSSH. Then que it, then start it.

There is a profile for this but I haven't quite figured that out yet as I am fairly new using AVIsynth/MeGui, maybe Ryu77 could help.

DirectShowSource("D:\YourVideo.mkv")
AddBorders(0,96,0,96)
LanczosResize(1280,720)

To identify what numbers need to be added into the AddBorders command, you will need to work out how many lines are missing.

720 - 525 = 195
195 divided by 2 = 97.5

I just rounded it down to the nearest even number and resized the picture to make it the right size.

Hi All,

I'm kind of confused as to what this software does and I haven't messed around with any Blu-Ray ripping yet. I have a few questions I was hoping you could answer:

1. When ripping Blu-Ray discs, what are the file extensions typically found? Not VOB like DVDs right?
2. Does this software convert MKV files to the same file extensions used in Blu-Ray discs?
3. After conversion of a file to a compatible format, how are you all playing them through the PS3? Are any of you streaming from your computer's hardware?
4. Does converting a MKV file to a compatible format, does it retain the same image quality?
5. Is there any way for me to rip a Blu-Ray movie, keep it on my hard drive, and stream it to the PS3 in its original format/file extension or will I need to convert it to another format?

Sorry if any of the terms I used are wrong and thanks for the help in advance!

Usually m2ts, sometimes VC-1, somtimes mpeg2
2. Does this software convert MKV files to the same file extensions used in Blu-Ray discs?
Converts to .ts, .m2ts... this is the one for PS3 compatibility, Blu-Ray structure (AVCHD) also compatible with the PS3
3. After conversion of a file to a compatible format, how are you all playing them through the PS3? Are any of you streaming from your computer's hardware?
Streamed/copied through my home network, and DVD9
4. Does converting a MKV file to a compatible format, does it retain the same image quality?
Same resolution, lesser bitrate for a smaller file size (for DVD5 or DVD9), obviously there will be quality loss but not enough to complain.
5. Is there any way for me to rip a Blu-Ray movie, keep it on my hard drive, and stream it to the PS3 in its original format/file extension or will I need to convert it to another format?
I've never tried this as I do not have a BD drive but you might run in to audio problems as a lot of BDs have PCM, DTSHD, and DD+ audio. As of yet the only surround sound extension compatible in the raw m2ts container is Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3 @ 640kbps max)

Sorry if any of the terms I used are wrong and thanks for the help in advance!
See my comments in bold above. Any more questions feel free to ask.

Hey that was great information! Thanks for answering all of those questions, but now I have a few new ones:

1. Does the software convert the VC-1 and mpeg2 files sometimes found on BD to the compatible m2ts?
2. Don't the big file sizes make streaming difficult/frustrating? And won't you lose more quality burning it onto a DVD9? I haven't actually ripped a BD yet, so I don't know the typical file sizes of the movies on there. Are they usually under 8.5gb?
3. I like subtitles and I've skimmed through and noticed that a few people are having issues with it. If I ripped a BD movie and it was in the proper m2ts format, would I then be able to stream it through my home network to the PS3 without loss of the subtitles?

Most of the advanced users use AVIsynth with MeGUI and convert to MPEG4/AVC h264 and mux that into m2ts with the AC3 surround sound stream
2. Don't the big file sizes make streaming difficult/frustrating? And won't you lose more quality burning it onto a DVD9? I haven't actually ripped a BD yet, so I don't know the typical file sizes of the movies on there. Are they usually under 8.5gb?
Blu-Ray movie sizes can range anywhere from 15GB to 45GB, so there will definetly be quality loss when recoding to a DVD9 size(8GB), however to the untrained eye there is really no quality loss.
3. I like subtitles and I've skimmed through and noticed that a few people are having issues with it. If I ripped a BD movie and it was in the proper m2ts format, would I then be able to stream it through my home network to the PS3 without loss of the subtitles?
No, subtitles and DTS audio are not compatible in the m2ts container. You would have to make a AVCHD DVD to utilize subtitles and DTS audio, which tsMuxeR can do. I have done this numerous times, but you would obviously need a DVD.

Okay

So i've been trying to get some movies on my ps3 with subtitles through the use of avchds.

I'm working with a movie that already has .srt subtitles in it.....I read on doom9 that you have to extract the .srt subtitles and convert them to blu ray subtitles (sup), but unfortunately i can't find a program to do this.....I tried supread but it only outputs them at 1900x1080 resolution, so even if tsmuxer does mux them with the video, it doesn't display on the ps3....

i'm losing my mind trying to get subtitles to work on the videos without having to hardcode them....what am i missing? is this a common problem right now? or is there a solution to this?

also, i've muxed the video with the .srt subtitles and the ps3 displayed them, albeit in a large delay and sporadically....didn't seem to function well...

also also, is it even possible to use tsmuxer to demux the video into .m2ts (or .ts) with .srt subtitles, then stream the video over to ps3 with windows media sharing?

also also also, i've tried loading avisynth scrips into megui, but when i load it the damn program crashes....this is what i did: open up notepad, type the description of the default avisynth as mentioned on here, put the correct address to my file (battlestar.mkv) then saved the thing as battlestar.avs.....i open megui and click on the "..." to load the avisynth script but after it loads, it crashes....can someone help me figure this out?

Latest versions of TsMuxer support SRT subtitles, so you don't have to convert them to SUP. There is a utility called srt2sup around that you can try if you want to continue down this path.

Using SRT has worked fine for me so far (two movies), check your SRT file makes sense (e.g. subtitles are listed in order from beginning to end) - also I found having a line break in a subtitle caused mine not to work (removing the line break fixed this).

MKV2VOB looks to be the simplest for recoding with subtitles...

can you tell me what your outputting?

i'm guessing you're talking about

720p video
avchd
srt subtitles

without having to edit the srt subtitles at all?

i've tried this already but the tsmuxer outputs the srt subtitles with a delay in their display

originally the subtitles are synchronized, but after using tsmuxer, the new video has delayed subtitles

dunno what gives or what to do

Is it a slight delay, or is it way off? Is it a gradual delay getting worse towards the end, or does it have the same out of sync time throughout the movie?

You can add a delay or a negative delay to the srt subs with tsMuxeR.
