Also, could you let me know what I am looking for under b_pyramid, B_frames, etc for future reference? If it's not too complicated which i am thinking it will be.

That video stream is not compatible with the PS3, your only option is to re-encode the video. Also, I would suggest only keeping the 5.1 channel AC3 sound and dumping the stereo AAC track.

Thank you, that is disappointing to hear, does anyone know of the best way to go about re-encoding this bad boy?

Does TsMuxer 1.7.6(b) allow us to mux more than one audio stream into an M2TS container, which is then switchable on the PS3?

Did anyone try the new PS3 2.30 update. It claims to support DTS now but when I converted the MKV file to M2TS with TSMUXER there is no sound

PS3 supported DTS from day 1, it's the m2ts container where the compatibility issue is.
The new DTS support in the 2.30 update is DTS_HD Master Audio, a whopping 24mb/s bitrate!

Some small issues I've found, although just setting the level in h264info to 4.1 does work, there are two other settings I always use in h264info:
- Frame Rate - I always set this to 23.976 (or whatever is appropriate for your source material) - some material I find have jerky playback without this set.
- Set PPS - I have found that if you DON'T set this, seeking on the PS3 is SLOW - seeking does work but it is painfully slow, especially resuming play after a FF/REW operation. If you set PPS, this seems to make seeking much faster
All of the above settings are done within h264info - NOT TSMuxer, which seems to break seeking altogether if you try and set PPS, etc from TSMuxer.

Actually I have found the reverse with tsMuxeR. If I disable "Continually insert SPS/PPS" then seeking works perfectly.

If I disable "Continually insert SPS/PPS" in TsMuxer without setting PPS in h264info, then I still get slow seeking - the symptoms are when you FF at any speed, initially it will seek forward, then pause, forward, then pause, and then continuously forward for a while until it repeats the pause, forward, pause cycle. When you press play, it takes 15-20s to resume playing. Resuming is worse from REWIND to PLAY - maybe 30s.
The key for me is setting PPS in h264info, this resolves the seeking issues. Admittedly I've only tested this on a couple of remuxed movies so after a few more remuxes I'll post an update...

Since the update in tsMuxeR was released where I can change the AVC level there I have totally left out the h264info step, since then I have never come across a seeking problem in that mixja666 is describing.
Are you FF/RW from a DVD, or a stream from your PC, or is the movie on the PS3 HDD?

Seeking problems are with M2TS files either streamed from PC or directly from PS3 HDD (copied via UPnP to HDD).

I have some MKV files that i want to stream to my PS3 but i have a few questions. First my tv is only 720p rez and the mkv files are 1080p, will the PS3 still be able to downgrade the resolution on them to play on the TV? Second, my computer is getting older and it has problems playing the 1080p files. Could you give me some info on what kinda specs i will need to upgrade the computer to when Uncle Sam gives me my "stimulus" check? What would be a good processor speed? duel core? video card etc...? Thanks a lot guys.

Can I put subtitles in the m2ts container and get the ps3 to play them? In what type of format should the subtitle be? Recommended software to convert sub to that format?

so the PS3 only supports DTS_HD master audio but not regular DTS!? I see most movies are regular DTS ie I have one that is 1535Kbps 48Khz 6 channels, I rarely see any movies with DTS_HD anyway. this sucks.. kinda usless for 99% of all movies. I dont see why sony just doesnt support what everyone already has..

@ Ryu77
I'm using eac3to for converting eac3 to ac3. I now have the Nero 7 installed with the Multichannel Plug in. I start converting the e-ac3 file with eac3to; I immediatley see the below in command prompt/DOS with "-" populating accross the DOS screen underneath "Disabling DRC..."; this lasts for about 60 seconds, then stops and no output file.
What am I missing?
eac3to v2.39
command line: "D:\Downloads\HD RIP utinlities\EAC3toGUI\eac3to.exe" "G:\HDDVD\HD DVD\moviename_D1_NA\Demuxed\FEATURE_1_MERGED.DDp.stream.00.ddp" "G:\HDDVD\HD DVD\moviename_D1_NA\Demuxed\FEATURE_1_MERGED.DDp.stream.00.ac3"-640 -nero
E-AC3, 5.1 channels, 2:23:27, 1536kbit/s, 48khz, dialnorm: -27dB
Removing dialog normalization...
Decoding with DirectShow (Nero Audio Decoder 2)...
Disabling DRC for Nero (E-)AC3 decoding...

Odin said that the PS3 has supported DTS audio from day 1... So that means it does support regular DTS, and now with firmware v2.30 it supports DTS HD Master Audio & High Resolution audio.
The problem you are facing is likely because you are trying to play DTS audio from a raw M2TS media file. Unfortunately it's not going to happen this way. For a DTS audio track to play, you will need to author in Blu-ray structure (or regular DVD format).

I have been following this thread and there is a lot of good information. My question is that I understand that a MKV file with DTS audio can't be played on the PS3. So you must convert the file to a M2ts(M2T) file to play and chane te audio to AC3. I decided to use mkv2vob to convert the audio and notice that their is a M2TS option along with VOB, AVI, and Mpeg. Why can you use this program to create the M@TS file to stream to the PS3?

If you really have been following this thread then you would already know the answers.
DTS audio is playable on the PS3. You will need to export Blu-ray structure from tsMuxeR instead of M2TS.
You can use mkv2vob if you wish. However those formats that it says that it outputs is very misleading. All mkv2vob does is change the extension. The container format used by mkv2vob now is always M2TS. Earlier versions of this program used a MPEG type container (VOB).

Omega379,
In regards to your no video issue. You will need to recode, lately 1080p files have been causing playback issues... not sure why though. I have done this and it works.
Either use Nero recode or Megui with AVIsynth. Don't forget, with m2ts DTS audio is incompatible, you will need to convert to AC3 using eac3to with eac3toGUI.

Can someone post "step by step" instructions on how to backup BR movie so it plays on PS3?
Here are steps I have been taking (a few, not enough):
1. Used AnyDVDHD to extract BR files...
2. Used Nero 8 to burn contents, as is from root folder.
Have also used the following:
1. Created ISO from Linux
2. Copied over external Drive then to workstation
2. Used Nero 8 to burn ISO
One more:
1. Just used Nero 8 BlueRay Disc Copy feature to copy BR movie.
Been reading on this thread that tsmuxergui and few other apps are required, I just don't know where to begin???
I have a Sony DL BR 4x Burner and PS3 with 320GB drive (few external 500gb drives).
Thanks in advance!
