odin24, thanks. i downloaded yamb and mp4box. i pointed yamb to mp4box in settings. i tried to mux my h.246 and aac 2.1 128kb vbr but it came up with some crazy error. did i not install yamb correctly?
man, i have been at this for 5 hours now. the fatigue is kiling me. i just want to know how to convert ac3 to aac 2.1 that can be contained in m2ts in tsmuxer.

Stupid question here -
I've got an eight-channel (is that even possible?) AAC audio stream that I'm trying to convert to (maybe just stereo) AC3, but MeGUI always errors. I could try using BeSweet or Belight (but haven't yet), but I just wanted some advice first.
First of all, if the PS3 can play AAC files (after all, one of the soundtrack ripping options is AAC), why is it that it's so picky about them? (On that note, which format would you choose? I believe there was AAC, mp3, and wav, but I'm not sure.)
Secondly, when downgrading to Stereo, will all the "right" audio be moved to the right speaker, and the "left" audio to the left? What about any rear audio?
And, uh... well, I think that's it, actually. Thanks for the tip on bitrate calculations, odin.
EDIT:
In answer to your question, mlus, you really should just keep it as an ac3 file, which the PS3 can read. Why are you trying to convert it?

- run the batch file (.bat)
mkv2bluray is specific to this release and will not
enable other releases to play in BD standalone or PS3
now i want to do this for other mkv's i have which let me to here
i dled the tsmuxer opened tsmuxergui selected the mkv file
now im stuck what output do i choose?

All you need to do is use tsMuxeR to remux to Blu-ray, and IMGBurn to burn to DVD (UDF 2.5)... that's all. Be careful though, most mkv's aren't Blu-ray ready and need to be resized to a Blu-ray compliant resolution. Either 1920x1080 or 1280x720.

You'll need to recode it to fit. There are instructions throughout this thread, and this one.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/639346
Also, you could remux to m2ts and play directly from the PS3 HDD. There are a few concerns with this though.
1. Audio must be AC3 (DTS can be converted)
2. No subtitles
3. Files larger than 4GB must be copied via a home network, or split to 4GB chunks using tsMuxeR, then you can use a thumb drive.

Before you mux you should change the AVC level from 5.1 to 4.1. In the tracks section highlight the video stream, then just below there is the option to change it. Be careful, this doesn't always work, if it doesn't it means the video is not Blu-ray compliant and needs to be recoded.

Either use a DVD-RW or a thumb drive. If you use a thumb drive you can make a 5 minute sample using the split/cut feature in tsMuxeR, just set the start and end time in minutes, change the AVC level to 4.1, then mux to m2ts.
When recoding the only quality loss you'll exerience is if you go from 1920x1080 to 1280x720, or if you keep the same resoltion and shrink the file extrememly (25GB to 4GB).
However I recode my own BD rips, from ~25GB to 8GB and there is obviously quality loss, but with a good profile and encoder there is none that can be detected by the naked eye.

Hi,
Newbie here...I'm a constant image height user and have been reading this and other threads for the past couple of nights.
I want the ability to reposition subtitles vertically using my PS3 for 2.35:1 movies where the subtitles are shown in the lower black bar of the image. Does that involve re-encoding or is the vertical position a modifiable attribute in the sub-title file prior to remuxing?
If it involves re-encoding how time consuming is it if my pc is a Pentium 4 3.2GHz? I wouldn't apply any resizing to the video and select Blu-Ray output format in tsmuxer to keep everything simple. I'm not looking to decrease the size of the rip...my only goal is to view sub-titles in the image area.

tsMuxeR can do this. Go to the subtitle tab, there is a Offset attribute, I think it's default is 16, which is way too low. Try 60, this usually works good for me, sometimes I go as high as 72. This function works with .sup and .srt (which tsMuxeR converts to .sup during the muxing process).
Also, you can test your results using a USB stick and a nifty little program called AVCHD-ME, if I'm not mistaken there might be a link and instructions somewhere near the middle of this thread, or in this one.

Thanks Odin,
I installed tsmuxer and I can see it on the subtitle tab. This is great news.
I'll have to experiment with the values as some movies display them
all in the black bar while others split them at the bottom of the image
and top of the black bar.

i have an AVI that uses the xvid codec. Unfortunately ps3 reads this as unsupported data.
TSmuxer isnt able to detect a stream for this file so i was wondering how I could mux the file or what program i could use to make it a supported format without loss of quality?

The PS3 is weird about which AVIs it'll accept and which it won't.
...I guess you could re-encode the video into another format, like h264 or something. I'm not sure how much quality will be lost (if any), though, because Xvid itself is a lossy codec, so... yeah, good luck.

If you've got an ethernet cable, you could try linking the two that way. But this would probably be suited more outside of this thread, just because folks who know about networking and stuff might not check in here.

after reading on and off for a while now, why is it so hard to create an all in one program made by ps3 users and for ps3 users. to elaborate i mean, multiple file inputs supported and auto control to re encode all types of files like avi divx x.264 m2ts to one file type. this is getting pretty hard to hold on to with all the small changes with each program that are necissary to make a ps3 compliant video.
I guess im just crying out loud and complainging because im tired of the failure. sry

Bitch bitch bitch...
Nah, I'm yanking your chain. I figure the reason it's so hard to get a singular program that produces 100% PS3-compatible video is because... well, the amount of PS3-compatible video formats is massively huge, much more so than most other systems (second only to, of course, PCs... and maybe modded 360s).
It'd be a huge undertaking to develop a program that had ALL the necessary files, plugins, encoders, functions, codes, and whatnot. Not to mention a functional GUI, which would take even more time.
