So now that the M2TS format is fully supported, you're able to switch audio streams on-the-fly, but you can't turn on/off subtitles.
To get subs, your choices are to burn to a disc in Blu-ray format or hardcode subs with mkv2vob (or similar program), correct?

I guess im just crying out loud and complainging because im tired of the failure. sry
Bitch bitch bitch...
Nah, I'm yanking your chain. I figure the reason it's so hard to get a singular program that produces 100% PS3-compatible video is because... well, the amount of PS3-compatible video formats is massively huge, much more so than most other systems (second only to, of course, PCs... and maybe modded 360s).
It'd be a huge undertaking to develop a program that had ALL the necessary files, plugins, encoders, functions, codes, and whatnot. Not to mention a functional GUI, which would take even more time.
yeah i know your right. but to make me happier i found that my problem was kinda faulsified by my own mental short comings... hahaha i was crying earlier because my m2ts wouldnt play wirelessly BUT i did figure out why. It acted like my ps3 was maxed out and it would not repsond to any control inputs once i tried to play a video for about 15 to 30 sec intervals. what i remembered is when i got a router, i got 802.11g and G speeds are not capable of transfering that large of files efficiently. so i have to be wired... that sucks... but thats what i found out was the issue here. so if anyone is more knowlegable please correct me so i am not wrong and passing on false info here. thx... and good work to everyone here. lots of helpful info on this forum...

I think you're more or less correct. But just to clarify:
The m2ts format is fully supported, but it doesn't have ANY subtitle support. Meaning you won't be able to put any subtitle files into it at all. (Which is just a little tweak on your statement.)
As far as hardcoding with mkv2vob, I'm not sure, since I usually use AviSynth to do the hardsubbing. You are correct on the Blu-Ray format, though.

The Blu-ray Conversion Kit has been updated:
1. The new version of tsMuxer is included.
2. The new version of MeGUI is included.
3. The new Ryu77 Blu-ray Profile is included.
4. The new x264 Encoder is included.
5. The guide manual has been updated as discussed in previous threads. It is now also a separate file so that it can be downloaded without the software package for those who already have the software or just want to look into the guide. The images in the manual are from previous software versions, but the premise is the same.
Note that by "new version", I am referring to the newest versions which are compatible with the processes described in this thread and in the guide manual. Newer releases may be available in some areas, but are not necessarily a good idea to have...
As before, input is appreciated. Cheers!

Hello!
I've followed several guides on how to create a BD Structure files with subtitles from a .mkv file. I managed to get it right, but I have one question: Is it really necessary to burn the BD file Structure into a DVD or can I just copy it to a flash drive and watch it directly on the ps3? I tryed, but I couldn't get the subtitles activated...
Is there a way? (It would save me a lot of DVDs!!!)
Tks in advance!

I haven't heard of a way to play the BD folder off of a flash drive.
Why are you worried about DVDs? They're... fairly cheap nowadays, aren't they?

You can actually use a flash drive to play a BD structured movie, I use this method ofter to verify subs and what-not. You need a program called AVCHD-ME.
http://www.mediafire.com/?ywt2wysnzb1
First of all, your video stream must be BD compliant, 1920x1080 or 1280x720, or this will not work.
1. Mux video, audio, subs using tsMuxeR to Blu-ray, use the split feature if your output will be larger than 4GB (neccesary for FAT32).
2. Make a folder called AVCHD. Place the BDMV and Certificate folders in the AVCHD folder.
3. Copy the AVCHD-ME program into the AVCHD folder with the other two BD folders, run the application, it should only take 1 second and it will five you a confirmation "Rename Successful".
4. Delete the AVCHD-ME application.
5. Transfer the AVCHD folder to the root of your FAT32 external drive.
6. Stick it in the PS3, navigate to the Video section in the XMB, press X on the USB icon, press X again on the AVCHD folder.
7. Now the movie will play as if it were a disc, you also must turn the subs on, they will not start automatically.
Using this method you can also have DTS audio and play an extremely large movie (full BD rip, remuxed), using the split feature in tsMuxeR (split to 4GB chucks). I do this with my partitioned 320GB external drive, I have a 50GB section that was formatted to FAT32, this works just like a USB stick.
Hope this helps.

in need of some help!!!
i have been reading thru aloads of forums for the last 5-6 hours! trying to get my .MKV file working on PS3 WITH subtitles.
i am using tsmuxer to demux then make a blu-ray file, then spitting into 4GB parts if needed, so i can transfer onto harddrive and play via the 'AVCHD-me' method.
i can get sound and video working on PS3 fine, apart from the green box at the bottom due to cropping/size... which i am working on but dont understand how to add/remove lines???
the main problem i am having is getting the subtitles displayed!!! (im doing this with a sample file first to ensure i can get subtitles on my blu-ray file, as i need subtitles)
once i have muxed the blu-ray file i go to play the file on my laptop which works fine but no subtitle when i click for them to show! this is the same on the PS3 too! (its show english when i click on subtitle). i have gone thru everything loads of time, and i dont think i have miss anything.
so if anybody can help me i would be very greatful!!

Try 60, this usually works good for me, sometimes I go as high as 72. This function works with .sup and .srt (which tsMuxeR converts to .sup during the muxing process).
I hope that answers your question.

That's your problem, you need to have a proper Blu-ray sized video stream before your subs will display. Theres is pretty comprehensive guide at the beginning of this thread which discusses this. Read through the thread, it's a good one.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/639346
the "Blu-ray Conversion Kit and Guide" is the one you want.

1 Question here. I have managed to play the file using AVCHD-ME. (based on the steps you have provided here)
Now, if I have multiple files/titles converted using AVCHD-ME, how can I make them coexist on the same hard drive ? Is it possible ? Or is there a workaround ?
Title #1 => New set of BDMV and Certificate
Title #2 => New set of BDMV and Certificate
Title #3 => New set of BDMV and Certificate
...
They cannot share the same folder name and I tried using different folder names but PS3 would not recognize anything else besides "AVCHD" folder.

I don't think there is a way for them to coexist on the same drive as independent files.
Now for the work-around. If the video streams are the same, and the audio streams are the same you could append them together and mux them as one BD file, you could even make custom chapter points to skip to each episode.

The Blu-ray Conversion Tool Kit has been updated:
A week ago, I updated the tools, courtesy of Ryu77, to include the most recent versions of MeGUI, the x264 encoder, the Ryu77 Blu-ray Profile, and tsMuxeR. Today I have updated the guide manual only to reflect the minor changes in procedure (mostly just new screenshots) introduced by the updates.
Cheers! :D

First of all, thank you for all your help i have gotten from this thread!
But i have one more question, which i suppose allready have been answered in one of the earlier pages :o)
I have a .mkv file which isn't in a BD compliant resolution. Is there an easy way to resize it?
It is in 1920*800 and i want to resize it to 1920*1080.

hi guys I just downloaded a mkv file with subtitles. Now, I want to mux it to m2ts format but tsmuxer says one of the streams isnt recognized which im guessing is the subs track.
So i was wondering how to mux the mkv into m2ts and hardcode or otherwise get the subtitles onto it? Thanks in advance

Use mkvextract to extract the subs. Then use Subtitle workshop to convert the subs to srt (SubRip), then tsMuxeR will be OK with those. Also, in order to view subs you need to mux to Blu-ray, not m2ts... and on top of that your video stream must be a BD compliant resolution, 1920x1080, or 1280x720.

Ok I converted the subs and extracted the video stream except I just noticed the audio codec this file uses is Vorbis 2.0 so that's what ts muxer was really talking about when it said it didnt recognize the stream and ignored it.
I guess I should convert the audio to ac3? How would you suggest I go about doing this? As long as i dont lose video quality...

Not sure, never worked with Vorbis... maybe try BeLight, or BeSweet.

Odin, I see that you helped a lot of people so, please help me. What I'm trying to do is to watch a full hd movie with subtitle. I have the mkv with subtitle in it. The mkv is 1920x800 and has ~9GB. I have TVersity. I also have tsMuxeR and MKV2VOB.
In MKV2VOB if I choose no subtitle, everything is fine, the sound plays and is synced, all is OK. If I choose preferred subtitle language, then the subtitle appears but it appears all over the screen and stands there (like in the picture here).
So please help me to make this movie with subtitle and playable on PS3. Also, is it possible to copy the resultant movie (the one with subtitle OK) on the PS3 HDD (I have a 320GB one) thru TVersity and watch it from there?
Thank you very much in advance.

You can convert using this The Conversion Kit and Guide, it belongs to this thread;
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/639346
You should also read there for a lot of good information. Everythinng you need to convert, recode/resize, is in that kit.
Also, unfortunatley subtitles cannot be played directly from the PS3's HDD, subs are only playable from the BD/AVCHD structure.
